AI Mode

AI Mode is a separate mode of Google Search where Google answers with an AI-written reply instead of a list of results.

Also called Google AI Mode

Google said in May 2026 that AI Mode had passed 1 billion monthly users, as reported in a press release (Pressat).

AI Mode follows the same rules as AI Overviews. To be quoted, a page must be indexed and eligible to show in Google Search with a snippet, and the usual controls like noindex apply (Google Search Central).

Google says its AI features may run “multiple related searches across subtopics and data sources” to answer one question (Google Search Central). That’s why AI Mode can quote a page that doesn’t rank for the exact words a buyer typed, like your pricing page for a question about cost.

Like AI Overviews, its visits are folded into the “Web” numbers in Google Search Console, so you can’t count them on their own.
